Discover the innovative and elegant White Box house design, a private residence with a museum-like ambiance, meticulously crafted by TOMOHIRO ARAKI in 2022 in Japan.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TOMOHIRO ARAKI's White Box is a private residence designed to cater to a client's preference for inorganic spaces, ensuring privacy without compromising on natural light. The narrow 4m x 20m site inspired the creation of this unique space, resembling a small museum while maintaining the essence of an elegant home.
The design's standout feature is the strategic use of skylights and indirect line lighting, which not only infuse the interiors with brightness but also create an illusion of depth, making the space appear larger than it is. The entire building is painted white, effectively diffusing light and ensuring a bright and airy ambiance throughout.
The project faced challenges in meeting Japanese building standards for lighting, but ultimately succeeded in creating a well-lit living space with a skylight above the stairs and line lighting on the ceiling, amplifying the spacious effect. The result is a minimalist yet sophisticated design that reflects the philosophy of simplicity and functionality.
Recognized for its exceptional design, White Box was honored with the Iron A' Design Award in 2024, celebrating its practicality, innovation, and contribution to a better world.
