Renovation Of Belight Camp House

Renowned designer KEFENG SUN has unveiled the remarkable transformation of the Belight Camp House, located in Jingshan town, Hangzhou, China. The project, which commenced in early 2022 and was completed in December 2022, saw the renovation of two white small houses originally used for forest protection into a vibrant campsite service center. The houses, covering 700 square meters and consisting of two floors, have been repurposed to serve as a supporting service room for the camp, becoming the center for various events that occur in the camp.

The unique design features brushed wavy stainless steel plates that abstractly reflect the surrounding colors and shapes, creating a dialogue with the environment. The building skin, like an Impressionist painter, records natural light and shadow, while the use of pine wood from the surrounding pine forest forms an external skeleton, creating a common boundary between architecture and nature.

Integrating the open space between the large and small buildings, the renovation has resulted in a comprehensive commercial space with a partial glass ceiling, an outdoor swimming pool, and an external platform, becoming the core activity space of the campsite service center. The surrounding site has preserved all the trees, further enhancing the natural and original ecology of the area.

Dr. Kefeng Sun, an associate professor, master's supervisor, and national first-class registered architect at the School of Architecture and Art, China Academy of Art, has been exploring architectural design strategies based on local Chinese architecture and traditional Chinese culture. The project has been awarded Iron in A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2024, recognizing its well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements.
