DOONYA: A Sustainable, Modular, and Customizable Living Solution for the Homeless

Jackie Lai introduces DOONYA, a revolutionary Shop+Home solution designed to address the upcoming urbanization crisis by providing a sustainable living and livelihood solution for the very poor. DOONYA is a self-contained, modular shelter unit that can be built in just four hours, offering a unique GPS number, an alarm system, a terrace, and a roof garden with solar panels and rainwater harvesting.

Utilizing Tubelar®️ technology, DOONYA is a fully-serviced and durable maker-pod-home that aims to restore personal space and dignity for those living in urban slums, war zones, and densely populated cities. The design is a result of a collaborative effort involving Rinkoo Bhowmik, Samuel Vedanaigam, Christina Ho, Rithika Thomas, Prof Christine Yogiaman, and Ted Lin.

With groundbreaking features such as in-situ upgrade, transient homes, flat-packed delivery, and expandable structures, DOONYA is poised to make a significant impact in impoverished urban areas, informal settlements, disaster relief, and low-cost housing projects.

DOONYA is the recipient of the prestigious A' Design Award, recognizing its practical and innovative approach that meets professional and industrial requirements, contributing to a better world.
