Shanxi Open Field Architectural Design Co., Ltd, led by designer Rong Han, has unveiled the Open Field Space, a 400-square-metre office interior in Xi'an that challenges the conventions of workplace design. Initiated in July 2024 and completed in February 2025, the project was conceived as an experimental environment for a spatial design team, aiming to transcend traditional office zoning and foster a culture of innovation and inclusivity. The design draws inspiration from the concept of an 'inner street,' transforming the workspace into a vibrant, multifunctional area that seamlessly integrates office, entertainment, meeting, and experiential functions.
Distinctive features of the Open Field Space include its dynamic use of materials and lighting: wood finishes transition from light brown to deep chestnut, while metal elements shift from matte to reflective, creating a visually rich and cohesive atmosphere. The alternating use of cool and warm lighting further enhances the sense of vitality, echoing the diverse and adaptable nature of the space. The office is configured with two expansive rooms, each 5.5 meters high, allowing for a staggered layout that maximizes spatial capacity and flexibility. This innovative approach not only supports a wide range of activities but also blurs the boundaries between work and social interaction.
Throughout the design process, the team prioritized the integration of cultural identity and visual communication, incorporating team logos and comic-style portraits into the environment. Overcoming the challenge of harmonizing these elements with the overall aesthetic, the project achieves a balance between spatial arrangement and expressive branding. The result is a workspace that feels more like a vibrant city street than a conventional office, encouraging creative interactions and redefining the experience of daily work. The Open Field Space's recognition with the Silver A' Design Award underscores its remarkable technical execution, artistic vision, and contribution to the evolution of office interiors.
