Open Mind Coffee: A Multifunctional, Boundaryless Café Space Redefining Social Interaction and Design

Open Mind Coffee, designed by acclaimed designer Kris Lin, stands as a testament to innovative commercial space design, earning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2025. Located in Chengdu and completed in August 2024, the café reimagines traditional boundaries through a glowing glass box concept, flexible layouts, and seamless transitions between functional zones. The project's vision was to create a multifunctional environment that encourages social interaction, relaxation, and engagement, setting a new benchmark for modern café culture.

The design draws inspiration from the idea of "Boundless Fusion," utilizing a combination of architecture, interior, and landscape elements to blur the lines between coffee, casual dining, reading, and exhibition areas. Instead of conventional partitions, the space employs furniture, lighting, and greenery to naturally guide movement and interaction, fostering a free-flowing atmosphere. A striking glass curtain wall connects the interior with the exterior, enhancing openness and inviting the community to participate in a dynamic, adaptable environment.

Material selection was central to the project's success, with durable and sustainable stone slabs such as Crystal Blue Diamond Stone and Glacier White Jade Glossy Stone ensuring both aesthetic appeal and environmental responsibility. The layered use of wood, marble, and glass, paired with strategic lighting, defines visual boundaries while maintaining a sense of unity and flow. The result is a versatile space that adapts to various needs-serving as a café, exhibition area, social hub, or quiet reading zone-while reinforcing the brand's identity and appeal in a competitive market.

Open Mind Coffee's innovative approach not only meets the demands of contemporary commercial spaces but also promotes cultural exchange, community engagement, and design excellence.
