Derya Geylani Vuruşan's large-scale public artwork "Fountain Of Life," blending traditional travertine stone and dynamic glass, has been unveiled at Istanbul Airport's Kaimakk Restaurant, earning the Silver A' Design Award 2025 for its unique narrative on time and material innovation.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Istanbul, Turkey - Derya Geylani Vuruşan has introduced "Fountain Of Life," a monumental sculptural installation at Istanbul Airport's Kaimakk Restaurant, which has recently been honored with the Silver A' Design Award in Fine Arts and Art Installation Design for 2025. The artwork stands out for its evocative interplay between past and present, achieved through the fusion of traditional travertine stone and contemporary glass artistry. The installation is part of Vuruşan's ongoing exploration of time, drawing inspiration from her acclaimed Moment series.
The "Fountain Of Life" features a hand-carved travertine fountain base symbolizing history and permanence, contrasted by large-scale, hand-sculpted glass splashes that appear to burst forth from the stone, capturing the fleeting present. The glass elements, crafted using advanced hot glassblowing techniques, required meticulous temperature and pressure control to achieve their fluid, dynamic forms. This technical achievement was matched by the conceptual challenge of integrating two contrasting materials into a cohesive narrative, resulting in a piece that invites viewers to reflect on the passage of time.
Installed in the bustling departure area of Istanbul Airport, the artwork transforms the restaurant space by engaging travelers and diners alike. As light shifts across the glass and stone, the installation reveals new reflections and moods, encouraging visual interaction and contemplation. The project, realized between May and August 2023, exemplifies how heritage and innovation can be harmoniously combined to create immersive, meaningful public art. The Silver A' Design Award recognizes the installation's outstanding creativity, technical mastery, and its ability to evoke wonder and positive emotions in a diverse audience.
