FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
"Night Of Celebration" by Derya Geylani Vuruşan is a striking contemporary glass artwork that has earned the Bronze A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award in 2025. Inspired by her earlier series "An," Vuruşan sought to elevate her exploration of time, memory, and materiality by merging antique glass goblets with modern glassblowing techniques. The piece was created between November and December 2024 and was first exhibited at the Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair in Turkey, captivating audiences with its evocative blend of history and innovation.
The artwork features antique goblets embedded in a blown glass form, with molten glass seemingly pouring from these historical vessels. This visual metaphor symbolizes the ongoing continuity of tradition while embracing the transformation inherent in contemporary practice. The process involves heating a blown glass form, pressing an antique goblet mold onto its surface to create a negative imprint, and then cooling, cutting, polishing, and painting the surface for a pearl effect before final assembly. The resulting piece is displayed as a wall-mounted installation, inviting viewers to reflect on the interplay between past and present.
Vuruşan's approach is rooted in experimental research, combining traditional glass-making methods with innovative techniques. The technical challenges of achieving precise imprints and controlling temperature and pressure during the glassblowing process highlight the artist's mastery and dedication. "Night Of Celebration" stands out for its ability to evoke emotional and cultural connections, offering a contemporary interpretation of heritage while pushing the boundaries of glass art. The work's recognition at the A' Design Awards underscores its creative ingenuity and contribution to the evolution of fine arts.
