Serrated Transparency Office Building: Award-Winning Design Integrates Geometry, Light, and Landscape in Athens

"Serrated Transparency," designed by POTIROPOULOS and PARTNERS, has received the Bronze A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award for 2025, recognizing its outstanding contribution to contemporary office architecture. Located in Ellinikon, Athens, the building stands out with its bold trapezoidal geometry and a distinctive serrated glass facade that reflects and refracts light, offering ever-changing transparency and cinematic movement as viewed from Vouliagmenis Avenue. The design responds to its context of loosely arranged office and residential buildings, providing both visual prominence and harmony with the surrounding green spaces.

The architectural approach juxtaposes a smooth, centrally atrium-perforated plan with a complex, striated facade. Straight and curved glass sections form the serrated edge, dynamically altering the building's appearance depending on the angle of sunlight and the viewer's perspective. This interplay of transparency and reflection not only enhances the building's aesthetic appeal but also filters natural light and frames panoramic sea views, creating a vibrant and inspiring workspace. The facade's geometry further blurs the boundaries between the built environment and nature, with the main atrium and reflective surfaces drawing greenery into the heart of the building.

Developed through a research-driven process, the project explores the relationship between smooth and striated forms, light, and the integration of landscape. Overcoming the technical challenges of constructing a serrated glass facade, the design team has delivered a building that is both visually striking and highly functional. The award from A' Design Award & Competition highlights the project's excellence in creativity, technical innovation, and its positive impact on the quality of workplace environments in Greece and beyond.
