SHUNSUKE OHE's Tsubomiya osteopathic clinic, located in Osaka's bustling business district, has been honored with the Bronze A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award 2025 for its unique approach to healing, blending the tranquility of a luxury Japanese inn with modern therapeutic care to create an immersive, restorative environment for both locals and international visitors.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tsubomiya, designed by SHUNSUKE OHE of LUSTYdesign Inc., has set a new standard for osteopathic clinics by transforming its 63.5-square-meter space into a serene retreat reminiscent of a high-class Japanese inn. Located on the first floor of a building in Osaka's business district, the clinic welcomes guests with a noren curtain, leading to a tranquil garden featuring stone lanterns and gravel. The interior utilizes subdued tones of gray and black, complemented by wood grain walls, creating a calming atmosphere enhanced by soothing background music and the subtle aroma of incense.
Unlike conventional clinics, Tsubomiya's design prioritizes both physical and mental healing. The clinic features four private treatment rooms, each with dimmed, indirect lighting to promote relaxation and privacy. The thoughtful use of materials-cloth ceilings, wood and cloth walls, and a combination of carpet, PVC tile, and gravel flooring-adds layers of sensory comfort. The lighting system is meticulously planned to guide visitors from the brighter entrance and corridors into the more intimate, softly lit treatment spaces, allowing guests to unwind and rejuvenate.
OHE's inspiration stemmed from the desire to elevate the standard clinical experience into one that also nurtures the mind. Recognizing that many Japanese chiropractic clinics are utilitarian and impersonal, he envisioned a space that would surprise and delight visitors, including the growing number of overseas tourists seeking authentic Japanese cultural experiences. The result is a clinic that not only offers expert osteopathic care but also serves as a gateway to Japanese aesthetics and hospitality, making it a popular destination for business professionals and travelers alike.
The Bronze A' Design Award recognizes Tsubomiya's creative ingenuity and its contribution to improving quality of life through design. By seamlessly integrating traditional Japanese elements with modern therapeutic practices, Tsubomiya stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful design in healthcare environments, offering a unique blend of comfort, culture, and care in the heart of Osaka.
