FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Blue Tandoor, a newly completed restaurant in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, has captured international attention by winning the prestigious Iron A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award for 2025. Conceived and realized by Jackson Y. K. Chia and his team at DESIGN GALLERY, the project reimagines the dining environment by fusing the serene beauty of the Taj Mahal with tranquil moonlight blue tones. The design offers a harmonious blend of traditional South Asian and Middle Eastern aesthetics with contemporary architectural sensibilities, resulting in an inviting and sophisticated space for a global clientele.
The restaurant's interior is distinguished by its curved ceiling waves reminiscent of the Taj Mahal's iconic dome, intricate arches, and ornate lattice work. These features, combined with woven lamps, natural wood elements, and textured walls, create a warm and welcoming ambiance that is both visually stunning and culturally rich. The use of premium hardwood, woven wicker, and brass accents ensures durability while enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal. The seamless integration of handcrafted details and modern materials sets Blue Tandoor apart, providing guests with an elevated and memorable dining experience.
Realized through meticulous CAD modeling and iterative collaboration with the client, the 3,500-square-foot space was completed at the end of 2023. The design process involved overcoming challenges such as balancing cultural authenticity with modern comfort and sourcing sustainable materials locally. The result is a restaurant that not only meets contemporary standards of style and functionality but also honors the heritage and artistry of tandoor houses. Blue Tandoor's recognition with the Iron A' Design Award highlights its success in pushing the boundaries of interior design while fostering a sense of connection and warmth for all who enter.
