Stephan Maria Lang's Shingle Residence L011 is a stunning residential house that embodies the perfect harmony between architectural design and natural surroundings. The l-shaped structure takes into account different lighting situations, offering a unique living experience for its inhabitants. The ground floor provides seamless indoor-outdoor spaces for various activities, while the upper floor hosts individual rooms. The integration of landscape, garden, and interior creates a holistic masterpiece of architecture.
The two-story studio window allows the western mystic light to filter through an old hornbeam tree, creating a magical natural ambiance. The use of raw materials such as larchwood shingles and copper cladding reflects the beauty of nature both inside and outside the residence. The project covers an area of 2200 sqm and was realized using concrete, copper, larchwood shingles, glass, and steel.
Lang's design philosophy focuses on terms like generosity, flexibility, lightness, and transparency, creating an inside and outside feeling of the building that exudes gentleness, dignity, and elegance. The project, which started in 2016, was brought to life by a talented team, including architect Hans Kreye and interior designer Diana Hess.
Lang's approach to the design was deeply rooted in the poetic dimension of natural light, the discovery of shadow, and the art of controlling natural and artificial light to create rooms that touch the heart and soul. The project's intellectual property is credited to Stephan Maria Lang, an architect known for his extraordinary talent in combining the special quality of a site with the personality of his clients.
