FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Stephan Maria Lang's House Elvesgarden is a 1600 m2 private residence designed as a spiritual retreat for a young widow, completed in Munich in 2019. The atmosphere is influenced by Japanese culture, with semi-dark shadowed rooms and warm, profound colorfulness. The design integrates natural materials, light, and a pool, offering a sensitive place that gives tranquility and various perspectives to the surrounding nature.
Unique features include a gravelled entrance courtyard, a house tree providing protection and beautiful shade paintings, and a generous open ground floor space with an intimate feel. The upper floor contains the owner's private rooms, while the centred bronze fireplace serves as the heart of the living area, surrounded by different garden views.
The project was an attempt to create something powerful without being loud, focusing on light and its countless approaches to its counterpart: the shadow. The design was realized using concrete, steel, wood, stone, and glass, with the project starting in 2017 and finishing in 2019.
