FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Organic Architecture Masterpiece: Lakeside Living

Stephan Maria Lang's Lakeside Living project, completed in 2013, is a stunning example of organic architecture that seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings. The house, located on the shores of Lake Starnberg in Bavaria, Germany, was designed to reflect a strong relationship to nature, embodying a Japanese atmosphere while offering a low-maintenance, natural hideaway for an old couple.

The property spans 6,000 square meters, with a 50-meter shoreline and 2,000 square meters of renaturalized wet meadow. The design features a summerhouse with a garage, a boathouse, and a sauna, all perfectly integrated into the lakeshore. The architecture, garden, and interior spaces are in perfect harmony, with natural aging materials supporting the concept of 'Gesamtkunstwerk'.

The building itself is composed of a concrete body and a crafted wooden shell, with a light axis running through it and ending in a pier at the lake. Wooden walkways lead to the boathouse and a generous terrace overlooking the lake, offering a serene and picturesque setting for the homeowners.

Lang's design approach involved reinterpreting the atmosphere of the surrounding wetland area, known for its original beauty, by using only grasses, lilies, and Filipendula ulmaria as mass plantations. However, the project was not without its challenges, particularly in dealing with the difficult lake clay during the construction of the boathouse and the foundation of the main house.

The Lakeside Living project was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2018, recognizing its outstanding and creatively ingenious design that authentically embodies experience and resourcefulness. Lang's work reflects a deep appreciation for Japanese thought, an integration of landscape, garden, and interior into a holistic masterpiece of architecture, and a commitment to using the latest technologies to meet the need for comfort and energy efficiency.
