FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Michihiro Matsuo's World Service Head Office

Michihiro Matsuo's design for the World Service Head Office is a testament to architectural innovation, drawing inspiration from the shape of tables and the softness of cloth to create a large circular structure that appears to float with a sense of weightlessness. This visionary project, completed in February 2020 in Osaka, Japan, serves as the headquarters for a company specializing in weddings and tablecloths, offering a unique blend of functionality and futuristic design.

The design utilizes a large corrugated iron plate to emulate the softness of cloth, while the structure gently wraps the building, creating a visually striking and technologically advanced office space. With a site area of 6408.97㎡ and a size of 2138.77㎡, the two-story steel frame building stands as a symbol of architectural excellence and forward-thinking design.

Notably, the World Service Head Office features a multipurpose hall that can be opened as needed, fostering a seamless connection between the interior and exterior spaces. This innovative approach allows for the expansion of space and versatile use, reflecting the project's commitment to adaptability and functionality.

Michihiro Matsuo's design for the World Service Head Office was not without its challenges. Overcoming the structural support requirements for the large overhanging circular section, as well as ensuring harmony with the natural and local environments, presented significant creative and technical hurdles. However, the resulting design is a testament to Matsuo's ability to harmonize bold architectural vision with practical considerations.

Matsuo's architectural prowess has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2020. This prestigious accolade celebrates the project's outstanding creativity and ingenuity, acknowledging its contribution to quality of life improvements and the advancement of architectural best practices.
