Fluid and Form: Redefining Spatial Ambiance with Oriental Landscape Motifs

Po Chuan Kao's Fluid and Form project is a testament to the fusion of oriental landscape painting and post-modern spatial design. The design team drew inspiration from the spiritual ambiance of oriental landscape paintings, translating the repetitive symbolism and spatial layers into a single-layer residence that seamlessly integrates natural lighting and a vista backyard.

The project's unique strength lies in its anchoring on framed oriental natural landscapes, evoking the motif of Chinese mountain clouds and Hokkaido snowfields. This theme of fluidity emerges as a spatial linkage throughout the interior, creating a balance between minimalist post-modernism and the natural ambiance of oriental landscapes.

Utilizing dyed genuine timber posts and natural masonry materials, the design achieves a visual extension of the natural vista flowing into the interior, fostering a relaxing and natural ambiance. The large volume of timber posts and cascading spatial linkage of the ceiling articulate different functional spaces with organic and flowing styling, while maintaining spatial continuity and openness.

The project's layout not only satisfies living functionality and entertaining needs but also features circulation design for disabled users, ensuring spatial continuity and privacy for the private domains. The green corridor between the public and private domains serves as a connecting path, further dividing the master and children's bedrooms, each tailored to their specific needs and preferences.

Despite facing challenges such as irregular formwork for the flowing ceiling and external landscaping affected by weather, Po Chuan Kao's art background and the design team's dedication resulted in an infinite interior that re-composes natural landscapes and warm colors to create a visually stunning, comfortable living space.
