Lo Fang Ming, the director of Dreamer Interior Design, presents the Castle of Fairy Tale, a neoclassical residential house design, completed in Taichung, Taiwan, from Nov. 2017 to Aug. 2018.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lo Fang Ming's Castle of Fairy Tale is a 5F duplex apartment that reimagines space by fusing European culture and art into everyday life. The design removes the closed, dark feeling of the original space, creating a tall and majestic hall that improves the sense of space by four times. The beauty of light and shadow, derived from opera box elements and European arcade lines, is seamlessly integrated with the living functions, resulting in a high-quality living space worth savoring.
To achieve an open living room, the hallway was moved outdoors, and the living room was horizontally extended by the arcade and grating lines, introducing sunshine and enhancing the play of light and shadow. The removal of the ceiling in specific areas increased the vertical height, creating a semi-open air attic on the second floor, which can be used as an extended interior for the study. The fusion of the opera box function and the use of transparent glass rails reduce the estrangement with the public space, while four arch windows facing the attic provide different enjoyment interests by day and night.
The design's technical specifications include three hierarchical landscape changes in the starting area of the hallway, the use of three different kinds of stone to embody introverted delicate space texture, and specially treated summerwood tree stone to strengthen the surface texture's venation. The design won the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019 for its outstanding and creatively ingenious approach.
