Alvan Suen's Monmono Yellow is a groundbreaking fusion of restaurant and gallery, fully finished in Yellow and Gold, offering a surreal experience in the heart of Hong Kong. The project was started in March 2022 and completed in August 2022.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Alvan Suen's Monmono Yellow is a revolutionary project that combines the elements of a restaurant and a gallery, creating a novel urban art insertion in Central, Hong Kong. Inspired by the concept of monochrome, the project aims to challenge the traditional urban context with its simple, clean, and calm single-color design.
The entire structure is fully finished in Yellow and Gold, offering a surreal feeling of being in the world of art. With its signature arches, stair art installation, and playful use of mirrors, Monmono Yellow creates an artistic and interesting abstract space, serving as an art sculpture in the city.
Most of the construction elements were pre-fabricated in the factory and installed on-site to ensure precise finishing and an efficient workflow. The project utilized advanced technology, including virtual reality walk-throughs, to communicate the design vision effectively with the workers on-site.
Monmono Yellow is not just a physical space; it's an experience. As an art piece, it serves as an urban insertion, gathering the art community and contributing to the city's vitality and local art development. As a restaurant, the zoning and circulation are designed to optimize the operation flow, while as a gallery, the circulation is designed to guide guests through a one-way path to experience the exhibitions.
Alvan Suen's Monmono Yellow is a testament to the power of design innovation, creativity, and technical prowess. This unique fusion of restaurant and gallery has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2023, showcasing its outstanding and creatively ingenious design that contributes to the quality of life improvements.
