Arthur Yang's groundbreaking project, Whyte Woolf Fitness Club, challenges tradition with anatomical murals in a rare church-like architecture, located in Dalian, China.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Arthur Yang's Whyte Woolf Fitness Club is a revolutionary project that reimagines traditional church architecture with anatomical murals. Inspired by the ceiling frescoes in western churches, the design aims to break through tradition while maintaining the spirit of the original form. The project began in June 2019 and was completed in August 2019, with a construction duration of three months in Dalian, China.
The 1700 square meter fitness club challenges the fixed mindset associated with traditional church architecture, expressing a different type of space within a building with a strong sense of form. The project utilizes terrazzo, steel plate, aluminum alloy, and hollow sheet technology to realize the unique design, providing a modern interpretation of traditional ceiling frescoes.
Recognized for its innovation and creativity, the Whyte Woolf Fitness Club received the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2020 for Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. This accolade celebrates the project's outstanding expertise, technical characteristics, and remarkable level of excellence, introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
Arthur Yang's design team, including Ye Yang and Xinan Zhou, overcame creative, technical, and research challenges to create a visually stunning and conceptually groundbreaking space. The project's unique approach to blending tradition with modernity has garnered international acclaim, positioning Whyte Woolf Fitness Club as a symbol of innovation in architectural design.
