Chung Yi Chun's "Moon River" residential house in Taipei has been honored with the Bronze A' Design Award 2025, recognized for its seamless integration of wabi-sabi aesthetics, innovative storage solutions, and masterful use of natural light to create a tranquil, layered living environment.

Chung Yi Chun, director of FAYI INTERIOR Design Space Creative Co., Ltd., has received the Bronze A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award 2025 for his latest project, "Moon River." Located in Taipei, this 100-square-meter residence embodies the serene beauty of wabi-sabi, blending minimalist forms with natural materials to create a peaceful, inviting home. The design draws inspiration from the gentle flow of a moonlit river, with every element-from the round mirror at the entrance to the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows-carefully curated to evoke a sense of calm and visual fluidity.
One of the home's signature features is the innovative sofa back wall, crafted as a perforated panel that serves both as a flexible storage solution and an artistic display area. This thoughtful integration of beauty and practicality allows residents to showcase collectibles and books, which are highlighted by the ever-changing interplay of light and shadow throughout the day. The living room's TV cabinet, adorned with rattan details and soft beige tones, further enhances the natural warmth and understated elegance characteristic of the wabi-sabi style.
Natural light plays a central role in the Moon River residence. Floor-to-ceiling windows invite sunlight to travel freely, transforming the ambiance from the gentle glow of morning to the tranquil hush of night. The entrance features an artistic round mirror, reminiscent of a lake reflecting the moon, which visually expands the space and welcomes residents home. These design choices not only create a layered visual experience but also foster a unique rhythm of daily life, where light, shadow, and space are in constant, harmonious dialogue.
The Moon River project was completed in 2024, overcoming the challenge of transforming windows from mere boundaries into focal points for the dance of light and shadow. Through a combination of arc lines, generous white space, and carefully selected materials such as laminate flooring, Italian paint, and titanium-plated iron parts, Chung Yi Chun has crafted a home that is both aesthetically refined and deeply functional. The project's recognition at the A' Design Awards underscores its contribution to quality of life improvements and its exemplary fusion of art, science, and design.
