Discover the Grand Blue Express, a luxury aquarium dining restaurant in Ueno, Tokyo, designed by Tetsuya Matsumoto
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Step into the immersive world of the Grand Blue Express, a luxurious aquarium dining experience in Ueno, Tokyo. Inspired by luxury trains, this unique restaurant redefines the concept of fine dining. The space, located on the 5th floor of a mixed-use building, offers a small yet opulent atmosphere, transporting guests into a world of underwater elegance.
The restaurant's design combines two types of train wagons, the cabin, and the dining car, to create a dining cabin that simulates a train cruising under the water. Each cabin is equipped with its aquarium, replacing traditional windows and providing an immersive experience for diners.
The renovation work for the aquarium dining restaurant took place on the narrow 5th floor of a mixed-used building in Ueno, Tokyo. The space turns on to offer an immersive experience with the impression of being inside a train cruising underwater. The walls are made using drywall techniques, the floor is covered in ceramic tiles, and the ceiling is finished in vinyl cloth, creating a luxurious yet intimate ambiance.
Project start: July 2021. Construction start: December 2021. Project/Construction End: February 2022. Location: Ueno, Tokyo, Japan.
Tetsuya Matsumoto, the founder and Head Architect Designer at KTX archiLAB, led the design team for the Grand Blue Express. With a background in commercial space design, Tetsuya has received numerous local and international design awards and is known for his innovative and remarkable designs.
