Architect Tetsuya Matsumoto Unveils The OmniDirectional

Renowned architect Tetsuya Matsumoto has unveiled The OmniDirectional, a revolutionary internal medicine clinic in Taishi, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. Inspired by the central functionality of endoscopy and the geometrical properties of a square, the clinic redefines spatial and functional relationships. The building, constructed using a wooden structure in a standard Japanese grid, places the endoscopy room at the center, visible from the waiting room through a glazed wall behind the reception counter.

The clinic's square shape, with sides in stairs form, creates a unified appearance. The exterior is covered in newly created fiber cement panels, while the interior walls are made using OSB panels, creating a warm wooden atmosphere. The endoscopy room, finished in white wallpaper and vinyl floor, stands out as the clinic's centerpiece.

The project, which commenced in August 2019 and concluded in July 2020, has received the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in Architecture, Building, and Structure Design in 2021. Tetsuya Matsumoto, the founder and Head Architect Designer at KTX archiLAB, continues to push the boundaries of design, redefining the healthcare architecture landscape in Japan.
