Discover The Parallel Blue, a unique aquarium dining experience in the heart of Tokyo, offering an immersive environment that challenges traditional hospitality design.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Architect Tetsuya Matsumoto, along with the design team, introduces The Parallel Blue, a groundbreaking aquarium dining concept located in the vibrant nightlife district of Shinjuku, Tokyo. This innovative restaurant reimagines traditional dining spaces by submerging guests in an immersive aquarium universe, defying the conventional use of aquariums as mere decorations. The project commenced in December 2019 and was completed in June 2020, marking a remarkable achievement in hospitality and immersive experience design.
The Parallel Blue occupies the fourth floor of a mixed-use building, featuring a gross built area of 94sqm. The design team overcame significant challenges, including the limited space and ceiling height of 2.2m, to create a captivating environment. By strategically positioning the water tanks over load-bearing beams and utilizing reflective surfaces such as mirrors and aluminum panels, the space was expanded in all directions, enhancing the immersive experience for diners.
The restaurant's layout includes intimate seating areas, with quarter-circle spaces for couples and box sofa seating for larger groups. The meticulous attention to detail and innovative use of space reflect the designer's commitment to creating a truly unique dining experience.
