FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Living Lab: A Sustainable Showcase at Hua Shan Art Station

The Future is Now event, held at Hua Shan Art Station in Taipei, aimed to promote sustainable living and circular economy practices. The event, which ran from July 18th to October 31st, 2019, featured the Living Lab, a space designed to inspire a shift towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

The Living Lab, designed by Daisuke Nagatomo and Minnie Jan, utilized refurbished and recycled materials to create an interior space that showcased the possibilities of circular design. The event focused on the 2019 theme of SDG 12 Responsible Consumption and Production, offering lectures and workshops to educate the public on incorporating circular ideas into their daily lives.

Constructed with a "no-landfill wasted" concept, the Living Lab featured flexible space planning, movable modular furniture made from wooden pallets, and a large lighting installation created from recycled film. The space was designed to be reused or recycled after the event, aligning with the principles of a circular economy.

The Hua Shan Art Station, originally a freight station built in 1937, was repurposed for cultural and creative activities in 2016. The Future is Now program transformed the interior of the building, incorporating green architecture and circular building design ideas to promote sustainable practices.

Daisuke Nagatomo, a graduate of Meiji University and Columbia University, and Minnie Jan, along with Flashj Wang and Ouyang Aining, led the design and construction of the Living Lab. The event hosted over 20 lectures and workshops, aiming to raise awareness and inspire the adoption of sustainable lifestyle practices in Taipei City.

The Living Lab served as a platform for individuals to explore the possibilities of circular design and sustainable living, contributing to the global movement in sustainable development and reinforcing Taiwan's commitment to responsible consumption and production.
