Revolutionary Kids Area Redefines Public Space Design

Li Xiang, the lead designer, along with project directors Fan Chen and Zhang Wenji, has transformed the third floor of The MIXc Kunshan into a 4500 sqm multifunctional experience venue. Inspired by Kunshan's rich cultural heritage as the birthplace of Kunqu Opera, the design seamlessly integrates traditional elements into a contemporary kids club, offering an immersive and educational experience for visitors.

The innovative design breaks through traditional public area concepts, unifying the theme across the facade and interior. Traditional elements such as Yunjian, long sleeves, horsetail whisk, Kuitou, facial makeup, and musical instruments are creatively translated into child-friendly symbols, adorning large cartoon installations and signboards throughout the area.

Utilizing scientific consumer movement planning, the space features customized soft furnishings that double as interactive points for consumers. The high-rise space in the parent-child park area serves as an open reception area, attracting attention and foot traffic while providing a captivating view for mall visitors.

Li Xiang's design blurs the physical boundary between the public area and retail stores, creating a powerful energy in the commercial space. The project, completed in Kunshan, China, has received international recognition, winning the Silver A' Design Award in 2021 for its outstanding expertise and innovation.
