Vincent Li's Ripple project revitalizes Yan Oi Tong Chan Wong Suk Fong Memorial Secondary School's library, creating a warm and inspiring atmosphere for effective knowledge transfer.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Vincent Li's Ripple project is a transformative endeavor that breathes new life into the Yan Oi Tong Chan Wong Suk Fong Memorial Secondary School's library in Hong Kong. The project, completed in February 2020, aims to address the low usage rate of the library by infusing it with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The design concept draws inspiration from the ripples created by drops falling onto a lake, symbolizing the transformation of knowledge into inspiration through contemplation and interpretation.
The library features curved bookshelves and a round table at its center, creating overlapping ripples that symbolize the flow of knowledge and inspiration. The floor and ceiling patterns correspond to each other, contributing to a cohesive and harmonious aesthetic throughout the space. The use of light-colored wood elements and different levels of greenery further enhances the ambiance, making the library a comfortable and welcoming environment for students.
One of the key challenges overcome by Vincent Li was maximizing the visual space in the limited area of the library. Boldly incorporating arcs into the design, curved bookshelves were strategically used to delineate different areas, encouraging students to enjoy the process of discovering books. This innovative approach has transformed the once mundane library into a dynamic and engaging self-directed learning space.
The Ripple project received the Bronze A' Design Award in 2021, recognizing its outstanding and creative design that authentically enhances the learning experience. Vincent Li's vision for the project goes beyond mere spatial planning; it seeks to reshape the ideology surrounding school libraries and inspire students' development, ultimately contributing to the betterment of society.
