Taichung City-based designer Hsin Ting Weng has been honored with the Iron A' Design Award 2025 for "Moonlit Treading," an apartment project completed in September 2023 that redefines minimalism through geometric dynamics and spiritual introspection, blending artistic complexity with functional living in Taiwan.

"Moonlit Treading," designed by Hsin Ting Weng and completed in Taichung City, Taiwan, in September 2023, has earned the prestigious Iron A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award for 2025. This 76-square-meter apartment project stands out for its innovative approach to minimalism, merging geometric forms and asymmetrical arrangements to create a unique living environment that balances order and artistic expression. Drawing inspiration from the interplay of curves and angles in geometry, the design challenges conventional minimalism by introducing "deconstructive minimalism"-a style that celebrates both structure and unexpected complexity.
The apartment's interior features a low-saturation color palette, with serpentinite flooring and stainless steel textured walls establishing a strong visual atmosphere. A curved, cracked TV wall and classical columns with modern pedestals serve as sculptural focal points, while red accents in the furniture add subtle emotional depth. The layout eliminates partitions in common areas, allowing for an open flow of light and movement, with materials and columns subtly defining zones without restricting mobility. The master bedroom entrance is cleverly concealed, ensuring privacy while maintaining the apartment's cohesive aesthetic.
Sustainability and adaptability are at the core of the project, with locally sourced materials such as eco-friendly clay and shattered serpentinite, and furniture designed for easy disassembly and longevity. The design process involved extensive research into creating a pure, unique residential atmosphere that supports various activities-socializing, dining, entertainment, and meetings-while remaining flexible for future changes. By fusing architectural vocabularies and exploring the emotional nuances of minimalism, "Moonlit Treading" offers a sophisticated reflection on personal fulfillment and the evolving needs of contemporary living.
