Hsin Ting Weng's "Champion" Wine Cave Design

Renowned designer Hsin Ting Weng's "Champion" is a captivating wine cave design that redefines the traditional concept of a bar, showcasing a meticulous fusion of spatial design and winemaking inspiration. The project, completed in May 2022 in Taichung City, Taiwan, is a testament to Weng's astute sensibility to color and multi-material application, delivering a space that sustains winemaking undertones while incorporating indigenous materials and innovative technology.

Weng's design features a dripping shape from the ceiling, hinting at the tears of wine, and textured-painted backdrops, creating a unique ambiance that resonates with the winemaking process. The use of brass and rusty steelworks, inspired by the apparatus of distillation, adds a touch of modernity and elegance to the space, while the incorporation of light and illumination infuses the area with British vibes.

The wine cave's unique properties include an intriguing masonry arrangement on the brick wall, a central bar station designed for optimal customer service, and a seamless integration of materials and craftsmanship that uphold both functionality and aesthetics. The transparent shelving and floating bottles create a two-way interaction with customers and passersby, enhancing the overall visual appeal of the space.
