Hsin Ting Weng's A la Blanc project is a stunning example of residential interior design that strikes a balance between decorative and minimalist elements. The project, completed in Taichung City, Taiwan, from October 2018 to February 2019, aimed to create an airy and calm living space with unique visual attractions and metallic details.
The apartment owner's request for a design that was neither ostentatious nor minimalist led to the creation of a controlled balance between decorative and over-designed elements. The high ceiling plan was utilized to create an airy and calm interior space, with mirrors adding to the spacious sensation and marble veins gently permeating the walls. The design's flawless serenity is achieved through whitish undertones, creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere.
What sets A la Blanc apart are the eclectic contrasts between texture colors and whitish backdrops. The use of metallic lusts coordinates with decoration colors, resulting in an eclectic aesthetic that is both visually striking and harmonious. The project also features unique visual attractions, such as the brass pendant contrasting with the indigo streamlined sofa and the copper skirting complementing the slate-blue kitchenette cabinets.
Technologically, the design realization involved adding shimmering grey elements to the lower TV niche design to echo marble vein lines. Bending titanium-metal plates were combined irregularly to play with forms, creating a unique visual effect. The tall bookshelves alongside the TV niche are composed of the same polyline structure, adding to the design's cohesive and innovative approach.
The A la Blanc project covers a built area of 115 square meters and incorporates keywords such as eclectics, modern, marble, colors, metal, linear, polyline, and decoration. The design team, including Hsin-Ting Weng, Shih-Ting Hsu, Jen Chen, and Meng-Hsun Li, collaborated to bring this project to life.
One of the unique features of the project is the interaction of the design with its surroundings. The master bedroom seeks a poised lifestyle, with metallic details adding contemporary touches to the interior decorations and creating a literary atmosphere. In contrast, the other room is alight with light through venetian blinds, creating playful ambiences enhanced by mirror reflections.
Despite its visual appeal, the A la Blanc project also overcame creative, technical, and research challenges. For example, the staircase handrail was addressed by installing a tall storage cabinet beneath white fluted doors, ensuring that all linear arrangements are clean and orderly.
Hsin Ting Weng, the designer behind A la Blanc, is a talented individual with a background in visual communication design and ongoing studies in architecture. Her keen eye for color and multi-material application has allowed her to develop a unique sensibility that is evident in the A la Blanc project.
